STIs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis often have the following symptoms, depending on where you were infected.

Symptoms on or around your penis or in your urethra

  • irritation or pain when you pee
  • moist or pus-like discharge
  • redness around your urethra or the head of your penis 
  • a skin rash, bumps or blisters

Anal symptoms

  • itchiness or irritation
  • pain or a loss of blood (during sex or when you are shitting)
  • redness
  • moist or pus-like discharge

Symptoms in your mouth or throat

  • a sore throat
  • red mucous membranes
  • whitish patches (thrush) on your mucous membranes 

General:

  • flu-like symptoms
  • spots on your skin
  • swollen lymph nodes (glands)
