HPV vaccination

Besides the vaccine against Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B there is also one against the STI known as the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Various types of HPV that can cause genital warts but there are also several different types that can ultimately cause cancer in some cases. Many people contract HPV at a young age, but not everyone has problems from their HPV. There are vaccines against the various types of HPV. The vaccines work best if you are vaccinated before your first sexual contact. Health insurance policies do not cover the cost of the vaccination for adults. Discuss with your doctor or HIV internist if a vaccination against HPV or screening for anal cancer would make sense for you.
