Your privacy and Testlab

Testlab works through your GGD

To use Testlab, the GGD needs to process personal information about your health and sex life. The information you enter at mantotmantestlab.nl will be shared with your GGD.  Plus, anonymised information is sent to RIVM.

Your privacy

Privacy of your data

When you make a Testlab request, your local GGD will process the following personal data:

  • Your name, e-mail address, phone number and date of birth
  • The information you enter about health and sexuality (sensitive personal data)

The GGD processes your Testlab request data in their electronic patient file.

If you were tested by the same GGD in the past, the Testlab data will be merged with appointment data from the STD clinic. The GGD does this to provide you with the best possible care.

The GGD will not use this information for other purposes without your consent.

Test results

Test results

Your local GGD will process the results. As soon as they are ready, you will be notified:

  • GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond sends an SMS or an email.
  • In other GGD areas, you will get the results through Mantotmantestlab.nl. To view them, you will need your email address, password and personal code.

The doctors and nurses treat your test results confidentially. Your GP and health insurance company will not be informed about your Testlab request or your test results.

Right of the GGD

Right of the GGD to process your data (legal basis)

The GGD which processes your test results protects your personal data according to Dutch Law. Your rights and privacy are protected by the Medical Treatment Contracts Act (Wet Geneeskundige Behandelingsovereenkomst) and by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GGD processes your data confidentially and securely:

  • The GGD only stores information for as long as required by law
  • Employees with access to your data have a duty of confidentiality
  • The systems and processes the GGD works with meet high security requirements

To process (sensitive) personal data we might need your consent. Except in cases where the GGD is required by law to process such data.

The Public Health Act (Wet Publieke Gezondheid) assigns to the GGD the task of protecting public health. To fight against STDs and HIV, the GGD sends certain information from Testlab requests to RIVM (Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu, National Institute for Public Health and the Environment). This is anonymised information. That means your date of birth, email address, and other pieces of information that can be linked to your identity are removed.

RIVM analyses this data for public health purposes. This way, RIVM can keep an eye on sexual health and the spread of STDs.

Your rights

Your right of access and removal

Do you want to access or change your data, or have it removed? Or do you want to object to the processing of your data? Contact the GGD where you got tested. Each GGD has its own privacy policy. You can find it at the bottom of this page (in Dutch). There you will also find the contact person for privacy-related questions.
